The renovated nature trail around the Pravčická Gate shows off the dominating site of Bohemian Switzerland in all its glory. Revealed for the touristic public use on 16th April 2011 by the director of National Park's administration, Mr. Pavel Benda. Its 6 km long patf from Mezní Louka to the crossroad Three sources has been repaired by the Park's administration, includinging 12 new information boards with information about all kinds of its natural, cultural and historical sites in Czech and German language. The visitors are guided by animated characters of princess Elisalex and a national park's guardman, who point out the different approach of people to this region over more than one hundred years ago, and in the present days. A printed guide with more detailed information has been published at the same time with the opening ceremony.
„The path towards the Pravčiká Gate belongs to the most frequented routes in our park,“ says the Administration board director, Mr. Benda, concluding: „ The path is one of the oldest touristic routes in all of the Bohemian Switzerland. The nature trail literally lets its visitors peek into those times, when tourism in this region was barely existing at all yet.“
The history of touristic paths around Pravčická Gate is really interesting. Having been used for hunting, traveling or merchant's purposes in the past, the paths have later switched to tourism. One of the domain owners, Edmund Clary-Aldringen had the paths towards the famous gate repaired, naming them after female members of his family, later known as Gabriela's pathway, or Pelagia's pathway. In the 1950's it was re-named to Julis Fučík's Road. The first nature trail came to existence in 1975, carrying the name of Nature Trail Of ČSSR – NDR Friendship. This path was renovated in 1999, iniciated by the CHKO labské pískovce. A second renovation began at 2010, already under the care of the national park's administration.
The reborth of this anture trail is a result of the project for Renovation of touristic infrastructure in the National park of Bohemian Sqitzerland, co-granted by European Union's Foundation for regional development, and the Czech Republic's Operational project Environments. The final cost reached up to 300,000 CZK. During the next phase another two nature trails of Jetřichovice and Růžová are currently undergoing reconstruction.
