National Art Collections, Dresden

A total of 14 different museums makes for a uniquely themed variety of these world-famous National art collections. They have been founded from an art chamber of 1560, originating in the baroque collections of Saxon kurfirsts and kings August the Strong, and his son August III. We wish to bring this amazing wealth of art treasures to everyone, thus various themed excursions for groups and regular guided tours for public are organized. The services offered  are complete with lectures, discussions about art etc.

NEW  GREEN  VAULT

Green vault is one of the world's most famous and richest museums, displaying items from national treasuries. You will be delighted with its two parts overflowing with the incredible opulence and shining beauty representing the baroque royal court of Dresden. The anti-reflexive showcases in New  Green Vault show many beautiful works of gold, silver, precious stones, enamel, ivory or amber.

HISTORICAL  GREEN  VAULT

Unique joining of opulent architecture and over 3,000 freely displayed rare art works, that isthe  August the Strong's treasury, situated in the wonderully reconstructed rooms in the 1730's style. Guided group tours are sadly not available here due to the expensive presentation. So you'll need to buy a time ticket including audioguide in 9 languages.

 

HISTORICAL  AND  GEOGRAPHICAL  MUSEUM  LEIPZIG

The museum in Leipzig is one of the oldest and most important museums of its kind in the world. Various and unique displays invite visitors to peruse arts and world cultures at their leisure.

 

ETHNOGRAPHIC  MUSEUM  DRESDEN

In 1560 kind August I. made by finding the art chamber and collection of rarities, also a foundation stone for Dresden ethnographic musem collections. In the present, this museum holds occassional exhibitions in Japanese Palace.

 

ETHNOGRAPHICAL  MUSEUM  HERRNHUT

Starting with items brought in by Bohemian Brethren missionaries since 1732, the museum holds permanent and special exhibitions to show and broaden public's knowledge of distant cultures and civilizations, and missionary history.

THE CHAMBER OF MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS IN ZWINGER

Interesting display of historical clock and watch  documenting the scientific development of centuries past.

 

NEW  MASTERS  PICTURE  GALLERY  IN  ALBERTINUM

One of the most important museums of modern art displaying works of art from 19th century til present. While Albertinum was closed, many various exhibitions used to be held in Semper building in  Zwinger, the Old Masters' Picture Gallery.

 

THE  OLD  MASTERS'  PICTURE  GALLERY Semperbau am Zwinger

The Sistine Madona by Rapahel has long since become a symbol of Dresden. Beside this particular work of exquisite old art, the gallery, which was projected by architect Gottfried Semper, contains a collection of whole 6 centuries' worth of European painting art.

COLLECTION  OF  STATUES in Zwinger

Over five millenia, from antique  til presence, connects the statues collected in Zwinger. Before  Albertinum was closed, they have only been presented at various special exhibitions.

 

TURKISH  CHAMBER, Residential Castle since 2010

Fascination with Oriental cultures breathes from the Residential castle. Among its main attractions, the famous weaponries, weapons and armory, allong with wire shirts, helmets, flags and standarts, as well as clothes and parts of Osman sultan tents, take a rather unique place because of being displayed in all their glory. The awesome tent over 20 m tall, 6 m long and 8 m wide floats high above the visitors' heads like a second sky.

 

COPPER  ENGRAVING  CABINET Residential Castle

Various special exhibitions allow us to see bits from the huge amount of over 500,000 pieces of art spanning over 8 centuries in total. In the Study room you can appraise original drawings, press graphic pictures and photographs from all over the world.

 

COIN  CABINET Residential Castle

Belongs among the olderst and most important collection of its kind in the world, presenting coins, medals, banknotes and other ancient means of payment as palpable witness to history's flow. Special exhibitions are held from April to October in Hausmannsturm Tower. Also library and study room is available here.

 

ARMORY Semperbau am Zwinger

Let's travel the time after court celebrations, hunts and knight tournaments from 16th to 18th century, as we sample beautiful weapons and stunning armors from Orient and other parts of the world.

 

HAUSMANNSTURM  TOWER  Residential Castle

The best view of the previous residence can be achieved from this tower's visitor's platform.

 

MUSEUM  OF  ARTS  AND  CRAFTS  Castle Pillnitz

The baroque summer castle of Pillnitz hosts a royal presentation of arts and crafts found around the historical Dresdner court as well as international history of handicrafts.

 

CHINA  COLLECTIONS  Zwinger

The tradition of Meissen porcelainware and early Japanese and Chinese china artworks comes alive in a richly appointed display inside Zwinger's beautifully decorated interiors.

 

MUSEUM  OF  SAXON  TRADITIONAL  ARTS and  PUPPET  THEATRE COLLECTION JÄGERHOF

Over four centuries old masterpieces and naïve artwork of Saxon history and tradition can be found within the Jägerhof building, as well as one of the world's largest puppet theatre collections.
