Grossschönau – German Museum of Damask and Terrycloth

One of the most interesting buildings in Grossschönau, the copper house, hosts the German museum of damask and terry. Its purpose is to preserve the special textiles weaving traditions in Grossschönau, since the first damask  in Germany was weaved here in 1666, and lately, in 1856 a massive production  of terrycloth was founded. The museum displays:

-        unique colletion of world-known damasks from Grossschönau of 3 centuries

-        working weaving looms (a.o. The only pulling damask loom in Europe)

-        sample factory with 27 installed machines partially for terrycloth production.

May – October           Tue – Sun: 10:00 – 17:00

                                   Sat – Sun/ holiday: 14:00 – 17:00

 

November – April       Tue – Fri: 10:00 – 16:00

                                   Sat – Sun/ holiday: 13:00 – 16:00
